The "Platinum Package" radio kit is our mid level package for your SpecMiata. This is the package we run in all the MiataCage.com house cars and what we used when we Won the 2010 25 hours of Thunderhill in California. Thunderhill is a 4.5 mile road course with lots of elevation and we had complete coverage around the entire track with this package.
This is the ultimate packager you can put into your SpecMiata! Unlike the other systems we offer, this one upgrades the radio in the car to a "mobile" unit or "chassis" style unit that gets mounted in the car and connected to the 12V power system. The car side unit is a VX2200 that puts out 20 Watts of power instead of the 5 Watts like the handheld units, so the communication from the driver to the crew will be extremely enhanced. Since the radio is a "mobile" unit and is powered by the vehicle's 12V power system you never have to worry about charging the car radio battery ever again! This unit is also capable of being scrambled (+135.00) so that your channel is scrambled in case any of your competitors are using scanners to listen in to your communications. This is the type of system that all the Pro teams have started using in their cars.
The Platinum package consists of the following:
Driver Radio:
- Vertex VX-2200 20 Watt 128 Channel Mobile Radio - Programmable to your race teams needs.
- Mounting Bracket
- 8 Character Alphanumeric Display.
- Hardwired into the cars 12V power. No battery issues or charging ever!
- Large storage case.
- Complete IMSA Car Harness
- In-Car Roll bar Mount Radio Box
- Push-to-Talk button.
- Helmet Kit w/Noise Canceling Flex Boom Microphone.
- Molded "Y" Block
- Shark Fin 3db gain Long Range Antenna upgrade.
- Foam Pro Tip Ear Buds.
Crew Radio:
- Vertex VX-354 5 Watt Radio - Same as the driver - Programmable to your race teams needs.
- Behind-The-Head Headset with Scanner Jack, Dual Muff with washable cotton cloth covers, PTT in ear cup, Noise canceling Boom Microphone and detachable coil cord.
- Desktop Rapid Charger.
The crew headset with this package has the scanner jack in the headset which is a must have feature! As a crew member you can plug in your scanner to monitor race operations in one ear and have your driver communication in the other ear. If you are on the radio with a driver and not monitoring the race operations channel with a scanner, you are missing a lot of good information such as:
- Yellow flag locations on corners you can not see
- The halfway point of the race
- When the track will go "Green" again under a FCY condition.
Without the scanner jack you would have to pull off one of the ear muff speakers to hold up a scanner directly to your ear.
